And with that, all six players return to the central foyer. Each person is holding two envelopes. Some are calm, others are anxious.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," Aldaniti says, standing upon a large platform, "Thank you very much for your participation in this very first round of the Liar Game. All of you have fought hard, but there may not be many winners today."
"Now, let us begin," he states, "I've organized my very own system for deciding who will reveal their envelopes first. Please bring your attention to the large object to my right." He says, gesturing to a large, six-sided object, covered in a white cloth. The dealer then grabs the cloth with both hands, and throws it off, creating a breeze that rushes over the audience. Once the players regain their focus, they all notice a large roulette wheel, next to which is a betting table, divided into six sections. The wheel, as well, is divided into six sections, one with each player's number on it.
"Now," Aldaniti commands, breaking the silence suddenly, "Please bring your envelopes up to the betting table before you and we will begin the player selection. Place your envelopes on your player number, if you kindly would."
The players look at each other, then slowly march onto the stage, placing their envelopes on the table one by one, then are ushered off the stage and stand quietly in front of it.
"Very good. I will now begin the selection," Aldaniti remarks, after which he spins the wheel around at a breakneck speed, the numbers blurring into white lines. He then throws a white, plastic ball onto the wheel, which bounces a few times before rolling opposite the wheel's rotation for a few moments, and finally landing in a division as the wheel slows down to a stop. Once it does, Aldaniti reads off the number...
"#20. Ms. Bara Sora, I will now open your first envelope."
Bara looks worried for a moment, but this does not last long, as Aldaniti quickly opens the envelope with a thin knife, flipping it open with a finger and taking out the check inside.
"42 Million Yen. Ms. Bara Sora has now secured the first positive amount in the game."
She looks pleased, but Aldaniti wastes no time in spinning the wheel again. This time...
"#36. Okada Atsushi."
Some of the players attempt to look at Okada, but he remains still with his arms crossed firmly.
"40 Million Yen. Once again, we have a very lucky player with a positive amount in their envelope."
A faint grin can be seen beneath Okada's long hair. Aldaniti quickly moves to the next person, and...
"Nanahara Renn. 99 Million Yen."
She looks genuinely astonished, as does the rest of the room.
"Takanashi Kaede. 1 Million Yen."
Kaede scratches her chin thoughtfully, but shows no sign of emotion. Mitsurugi Kiyoshi smirks, knowing that he picked both of his bags correctly, and assuming the rest of the crowd would get negative reads on their next bag. But immediately after this thought crosses his mind...
"Bara Sora. 58 Million Yen. Lucky indeed, for she has correctly picked both of her positive bags and secured 100 Million Yen!"
Mitsurugi begins to worry, as too many people getting both bags correct could spell doom for everyone. Daisuke next to him shares his concern, but at the moment is more concerned with his own bags... he had five bags to choose from after the requesting stage, and wonders if he chose correctly. His thoughts are quickly given form, though, as the next bag is announced...
"Motou Daisuke. 60 Million Yen. This bag was requested by him during the third round, having been tossed by Okada Atsushi."
The surname of the player echos through the hall as all eyes turn to Atsushi, remembering what his first envelope was. He realizes it as well, but maintains hope that he at least kept the bag with only a few million yen to lose. As if hearing his thoughts, the ball stops on his number, and the room grows anxious. Aldaniti takes Atsushi's envelope and slices open the top. He picks up the check, and...
"Okada Atsushi. Negative 99 Million Yen. Unfortunately, this means Okada cannot recover and will be going to the revival round."
Okada's eyes grow wide, his mouth cracking open. He collapses to the ground, staring down at the floor dejectedly. The room fills with tension as the next envelope is opened...
"Takanashi Kaede. 99 Million Yen. This means that she, too, has picked out both her positive envelopes."
She smiles proudly, but this sentiment is not shared in the least by Mitsurugi Kiyoshi. He begins to fear for a 4-or-5-way tie, which would mean that all of the players in that tie would end up going to the revival round. He does not want that to happen. If there's just one more person who got both of them correct, they will have doomed everyone here to death...
"Nanahara Renn. 1 Million Yen."
Nanahara beams and does a fist-pump, but Mitsurugi is visibly shaken by this. Now no one can get through... not even...
He realizes something, and looks over at Daisuke, who proudly pushes up his glasses, causing enough glare to hide his eyes. Daisuke had 5 bags to choose from... of course he switched out for the bigger bags...! Then only Daisuke will win... It won't be him, no matter what... but at least not everyone will die...
"Motou Daisuke. 1 Million Yen. Unfortunately, Daisuke will be joining us in the revival round, as well."
Both Daisuke and Mitsurugi are stunned. How could this happen?! Daisuke is shocked because he won't win, and Mitsurugi because no one will... Both of his bags are positive... he has 100 Million... so everyone will lose. He can't believe it. How could everyone else get so lucky? How could Daisuke be so UN-lucky? He stares at the envelopes that Aldaniti holds in his hands, which he knows are both positive. They get ripped open, and he sighs. Well, at least this way, he'll have a better chance of survival in the revival round. Isn't that right? More people means more winners, so...
"Mitsurugi Kiyoshi. These two remaining bags have a combined total of Negative 100 Million Yen."
Just like he thought. 100 Million. So now, everyone will lose, including him. Well, at least he made it out with a profit. He'll just have to do better next-
...What?
Mitsurugi zones back into reality, and catches the end of Aldaniti's statement...
"-ill be joining us in the revival round. Which means that we have 3 clear winners, and 3 clear losers!"
Mitsurugi collapses to the ground. How...? How could he have picked the negative bags...?! He was so sure...
---
After a while, Aldaniti comes back with the bag of discarded envelopes, all readily counted.
"Minna-sama, everything counted, you have discarded a total of Negative 300 Million Yen into this bin. This divided by 6 equals Negative 50 Million Yen, which will be added onto each of your totals."
"The Final Standings are as follows."
=1st: Nanahara Renn, keeping #11 and #22, sum total +50M.
=1st: Bara Sora, keeping #10 and #27, sum total +50M.
=1st: Takanashi Kaede, keeping #12 and #13, sum total +50M.
4th: Motou Daisuke, keeping #3 [requested from Atsushi] and #18 [original], sum total +11M.
5th: Okada Atsushi, keeping #1 and #26, total -9M.
6th: Mitsurugi Kiyoshi, keeping #7 and #29, total -150M.
As such, Nanahara Renn, Bara Sora, and Takanashi Kaede will advance to Round 2. The others will participate in the revival round and fight for their right to stay in the game!
