And with that, all six players return to the central foyer. Each person is holding two envelopes. Some are calm, others are anxious.
It appears no one has succeeded in requesting envelopes! Hm...
Kimura opens Envelope #1. Within, he finds... +¥1M. Lackluster, but better than nothing.
Okutsu opens Envelope #22... Kei Shimizu pulls open Envelope #30... and they each also pull out +¥1M! Hardly a lead...
With three players tied at a measly ¥1M, Wada Mitsuru opens Envelope #2, and triumphantly drops +¥99M out in front of the players to see! Heart palpitations begin as eyes go to Akamatsu and Suzuki.
Suzuki, trembling, tears open Envelope #8. She peers inside, and grins. +¥70M!
Akamatsu, carefully pulls the glue on Envelope #24 apart... and finds +¥40M!
Hmm... so everyone's in the positives. These next envelopes could make or break the game for three of you...
Not being able to bear the suspense, Suzuki rips open her second envelope, Envelope #23... she breathes a sigh of relief: +¥30M! Suzuki has collected the full ¥100M!
Wada Mitsuru confidently opens Envelope #12... and suddenly frowns. An I.O.U. for -¥1M sits inside. Wada Mitsuru has collected ¥98M! A good number, but will it be good enough?
Kimura Ichiro wipes the sweat off his forehead as he opens Envelope #17 with trepidation... he peers inside... and screams in agony: "HOW?!" Tears of fear roll down his face as an I.O.U. for a whopping -¥99M falls out of the envelope. He kicks the wall. Masked attendants are forced to intervene and calm him down... Kimura stares down his fellow players, seething in anger at his -¥98M debt.
Players no longer feel safe in their choices.
Akamatsu shivers, his fate lying within Envelope #15. He breathes deep, and tears it open. And he finds...
...
+¥60M! Akamatsu has tied with Suzuki with all ¥100M collected!
All eyes are on Okutsu and Shimizu.
Okutsu nods to Shimizu to go first. Shimizu shakes his head, wanting Okutsu to go first.
They play rock paper scissors. Shimizu wins.
They didn't realize they didn't say whether winning means you go first or you go last.
They decide it means you go first, and then play rock paper scissors again.
Shimizu wins again.
Shimizu nervously pulls open Envelope #7... and screams.
...In celebration! +¥99M are within! Kei Shimizu is tied at +¥100M with Suzuki and Akamatsu!
...Suddenly, everyone gets serious. The grim realization sets in: if Okutsu has +¥99M in his final envelope...
Okutsu drops Envelope #6, he's shaking so much... a catch 22 for him.
Everyone wants him to fail.
He opens it.
And within...
...
...Could it be?
.......Is it?
..........
+¥99M! Okutsu has all +¥100M!
Congratulations to Suzuki, Akamatsu, Shimizu, and Okutsu for collecting their full +¥100M!
So what are the final standings? The masked attendants add up the contents of all the unclaimed post, and come to a whopping -¥400M. Split amongst each of you, that comes to a -¥66.67M deduction off of each of your scores.
=1st: Okutsu Fumio, keeps #6 and #22, sum total +33.33M.
=1st: Kei Shimizu, keeping #7 and #30, sum total +33.33M.
=1st: Akamatsu Yutaka, keeping #15 and #24, sum total +33.33M.
=1st: Suzuki Usagi, keeping #8 and #23, sum total +33.33M.
5th: Wada Mitsuru, keeping #2 and #12, total +31.33M.
6th: Kimura Ichiro, keeping #1 and #17, total -164.67M.
According to the rules:
The 3 players with the most money are the winners, and will move on to Round Two. The other 3 will be sent to a Revival Round where they will fight for their survival in the tournament. If there is a tie that cannot determine the eliminated players, then all of the tied players will be eliminated.
Regretfully, as there is no clear 4th place because 4 players are all tied for 1st, it is impossible to determine a Top Three. Therefore, all six of you will be going to the Revival Round!
HOORAY!!
Oh, I mean... I'm sorry. Good game, but apparently not good enough... We'll be seeing you very, very soon.
